By-laws of

The Order of the Daughters of the King

of

The Diocese of Milwaukee

(As amended November, 2008)

Article I.   Name

The Name of this Diocesan Assembly shall be "The Order of the Daughters of the King of the Diocese of Milwaukee."

Article II.   Object

The object of this Assembly shall be the extension of Christ's Kingdom through Prayer, Service and Evangelism, especially within the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee.

Article III.   Members

Section 1  

All members of the Assembly must be members of organized Chapters or Daughters at Large within the Diocese of Milwaukee

Section 2

All Chapters must be organized in accordance with the By-Laws of the National Order of The Daughters of the King, Inc.

Section 3

All Chapters and their individual members shall abide by the National By-Laws in regards to payment of dues, resignation from the Order, reinstatement to the Order and disposition of the Cross upon death or resignation.  All Chapters shall collect and disburse the regular gatherings of money to the Endowment, Master's, and Self-Denial Funds of the National Order of the Daughters of the King on an annual basis.

Section 4

All Chapters shall strive to have regular Chapter meetings, attend semiannual Diocesan Assemblies, services of Admission of new Chapters, and the annual corporate Communion on All Saints Day.

Article IV.   Assembly Organization

Section 1

Meetings

A.

The Assembly shall meet semiannually for Fellowship, Prayer, Study and Business.

B. The Business of the Assembly shall be conducted by the Board, which shall consist of duly-elected officers and the Presidents of each organized Chapter within the Diocese of Milwaukee.

C.

The Board shall meet semiannually in the month preceding the Assembly meeting.

Section 2 Officers

A.

The officers of the Assembly shall be elected by the majority vote of those members present at the Spring Assembly in the Triennial year.

1.

Eligible names shall be submitted for the office of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

2. All terms will run for a period of three (3) years, beginning September 1st.

3.

No officer may serve more than two consecutive terms.

B.

Duties of the Officers

1.

President

a.

The President shall preside at all meetings of the Board and Assembly

b. The President shall appoint all committees, subject to the approval of the Board.

c.

The President shall be ex-officio member of all committees.

d. The President shall perform all duties pertaining to the office.
e. The President shall have power to fill all vacancies in the Assembly-elected membership of the Board, with the consent of the Board.  Any office member thus appointed shall serve for the remainder of the term.

2.

Vice President

a.

In the absence of the President, the Vice President shall perform the duties of the President.

b. In case of vacancy in the office of the President, the Vice President shall automatically become President.

3.

Secretary

a.

The Secretary shall keep all minutes of the Board and Assembly meetings.

4.

Treasurer

a.

The Treasurer shall have charge of all money belonging to the Assembly.

b. The Treasurer shall provide written semi-annual reports of all money belonging to the Assembly with semi-annual statements of all monies which are received and disbursed.

c.

The Treasurer shall report quarterly to the President the status of any money belonging to the Assembly.

d. The Treasurer shall submit an annual report to the Diocese each fall before Convention.
e. All financial records shall be reviewed and reconciled, on an annual basis, by another member of the Assembly, who is appointed by the Board.

Article V.   Assembly Chaplain

The Chaplain of the Assembly shall be a Priest of the Diocese, recommended and invited by the President of the Assembly, in council with the Bishop of the Diocese.

Article VI.   Daughters at Large Chair

The DAL Chair shall be appointed by the Executive Board. 

Section 1  

The DAL Chair shall maintain contact at least one annually with DALs.

Section 2

Encourage DALs to join or form chapters when possible.

Section 3

Encourage DALs to participate in Diocesan Assemblies.

Section 4

DAL Chair shall represent DALs' concerns and needs to the Executive Board.

Article VI.   Parliamentary Authority

The rules of Quorum (1/2 membership present) and simple majority vote shall govern the proceedings of the Board and the Assembly of the Order of The Daughters of the King of the Diocese of Milwaukee.

Article VII.  Amendment

These By-Laws, as a whole or in part, may be amended at any regular meeting of the Board by a vote of all members present, provided the amendment(s) has/have been submitted to the Board in writing.
